The official marketing text of Canon CanoScan 9950F as supplied by the manufacturer
With its unrivalled clarity, outstanding resolution and capacity to scan an entire film roll in a single operation, the CanoScan 9950F represents a new standard in professional, high-speed, ultimate quality scanning.

As a demanding professional with a need to scan more than just a few negatives or transparencies, you will delight in the power and quality of the CanoScan 9950F. Every element of this super-high resolution flat-bed scanner works in harmony to deliver the two things demanded of a professional scanner: superb image quality and unrivalled productivity.

Powerful software
The 9950F comes with a suite of powerful software tools that deliver outstanding functionality, performance and productivity. The SilverFast SE driver gives professional level control over the scan process, reducing the requirement for post scan image processing. Award winning Adobe PhotoShop Elements, Ominpage SE complete the package with powerful image processing, Optical Character recognition

When it comes to image quality, the CanoScan 9950F is without peer. 4800 x 9600dpi resolution will capture the finest details, while 48 bit colour depth ensures exceptionally accurate colour reproduction. Resolution is only half the story, however. The spherical lenses of conventional scanners introduce aberrations that cause a softening of the image towards the edges. The CanoScan 9950F aspherical Super Toric lens eliminates these aberrations to increase sharpness, contrast and colour stability, as well as transmitting more light for faster scanning.

Fast film scanning
With its large film adapter unit (FAU), the CanoScan 9950F is capable of scanning 30 x 35mm negatives in a single operation. It can also take up to 12 mounted slides, 120 roll or 4x5" transparencies. The CanoScan 9950F has both USB 2.0 Hi-Speed and IEEE1394 (FireWire) connections for blistering data transfer speeds for PC and Mac platforms.

FARE Level 3
Using infrared scanning detection, FARE Level 3 technology automatically restores scratched, damaged or faded film to its former glory, saving hours of manual retouching. It also corrects heavily back-lit film, balancing images by diminishing the brightness only of those areas that are over-exposed. QARE Level 3 performs the same functions for photo prints.

EZ buttons
The CanoScan 9950F is equipped with four large, easy-to-use scan buttons. Customise these to perform the functions you use most: copying, scanning, filing, sending to your e-mail program or scanning straight to PDF (Portable Document Format).

Maximum scan size*
210 x 297 mm
Optical scanning resolution*
How many pixels a scanner can see. Most commonly, this is measured in dots per inch (dpi). For example, a typical flatbed scanner will use a scanning head with 300 sensors per inch, so it can sample 300 dots per inch (dpi) in one direction. To scan in the other direction, it will move the scanning head along the page, stopping 300 times per inch, so it can scan 300 dpi in the other direction as well. This scanner would have an optical resolution of 300 x 300 dpi. Some manufacturers stop the scanning head more frequently as it moves down the page, so their machines have resolutions of 300 x 600 dpi or 300x1200 dpi.
4800 x 9600 DPI
Colour scanning*
Indicates whether this product scans in colour.
Input colour depth
Colour depth of the input into the product. The colour depth is either the number of bits used to indicate the color of a single pixel, in a bitmapped image or video frame buffer, or the number of bits used for each color component of a single pixel. High-end laptops have 24-bit colour depth.
48 bit
Scanner type*
A scanner is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object, and converts it to a digital image. Common examples found in offices are variations of the desktop (or flatbed) scanner where the document is placed on a glass window for scanning. There are different types of scanners e.g. flatbed, pen, sheet-feed.
Sensor type*
A sensor is a convertor than measures a physical quality (light, temperature etc.) and displays this electronically on a device.
